About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop new features and capabilities for actuarial applications built with R Shiny
- Design and enhance user interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Develop shared JavaScript components to improve maintainability and accelerate feature development
- Refactor R code to leverage reusable JavaScript components where appropriate
- Collaborate with actuaries and stakeholders to understand business challenges and refine requirements
- Translate business ideas into practical software solutions
- Build and maintain automated test suites for UI components
- Follow software engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement
- Help shape the technical direction of a growing suite of actuarial applications
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of experience in software engineering
- Education or equivalent experience in a quantitative discipline such as actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field
- Strong JavaScript, HTML, and CSS skills
- Experience structuring UI codebases for maintainability
- Ability to independently design and implement user interfaces
- Experience with R or other analytical programming languages such as Python or SAS
- R experience strongly preferred and willingness to learn R
- Solid software engineering fundamentals, including version control, testing, code review, and effort estimation
- Ability to quickly learn new languages, frameworks, and technologies
- Experience customizing R Shiny components using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Experience using agentic development tools to improve, refactor, or generate code
