About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work jointly with the data science team to develop and implement sophisticated predictive models for in-depth analysis and to improve current models/processes.
  • Collaborate with Business Development specialists on broker-facing initiatives.
  • Consolidate analyses from different centers of excellence to prepare rate-change proposals and ensure a balance between technical pricing and business insights derived from the analyses.
  • Work closely with the strategy team and other Personal Insurance teams to deliver on the mandate of each region/network.
  • After careful analysis, adopt both traditional and innovative approaches to apply established actuarial techniques to resolve operational challenges.
  • Develop actuarial pricing techniques that meet regional needs and participate in pricing our personal insurance products.
  • Prepare and participate in regulatory rate filings and document the actuarial processes and models used.
  • Support less-experienced staff by sharing technical knowledge and providing guidance.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or another related field.
  • Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written.
  • Bilingual requirement: proficiency in English in addition to French is required for verbal and written communication with our clients, partners, and Aviva teams across Canada.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 CAS exams completed.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years’ experience in property and casualty insurance.
  • Commitment to improving the customer experience.
  • Actuarial curiosity and eagerness to learn and explore new solutions.
  • Strong background in mathematics and statistics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Solid programming skills.
  • Knowledge of Python, MS Access, SAS, and VBA.
  • Experience in predictive modeling.
  • Ability to explain complex actuarial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
