About the role

  • Lead and oversee FOIA compliance programs in support of federal clients
  • Provide strategic guidance on FOIA exemption application, redaction standards, and defensible release determinations
  • Review and approve complex FOIA responses and sensitive document releases
  • Establish and maintain internal compliance controls, SOPs, and quality assurance processes
  • Oversee tracking systems, metrics, and reporting related to FOIA processing and compliance performance
  • Provide acquisition support for a federal client including developing scopes of work, cost estimates, and reviewing proposals
  • Ensure compliance with federal acquisition regulations (FAR), contract terms and conditions, and agency-specific requirements
  • Support federal contract acquisition efforts by advising on compliance requirements, proposal language, staffing plans, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Partner with business development and capture teams to ensure compliance considerations are integrated into proposals
  • Build strategic partnerships with potential clients and partner organizations
  • Lead internal audits and compliance reviews to assess risk and identify process improvements
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior compliance specialists, communications staff, and project teams
  • Develop and deliver internal training on FOIA regulations, federal contracting compliance, records management, and data handling
  • Coordinate with legal counsel, contracting officers, and client stakeholders on regulatory interpretations and compliance challenges
  • Support responses to audits, data calls, and agency inquiries related to compliance matters
  • Advise leadership on emerging regulatory risks and policy changes affecting federal contracts
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of experience in FOIA compliance, federal regulatory compliance, government contracting, or related legal/regulatory roles
  • Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing FOIA programs within a federal agency or government contracting environment
  • Strong working knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), common exemptions, and federal records management requirements
  • Solid understanding of federal contracting frameworks, including FAR compliance and contract administration principles
  • Experience supporting proposal development and federal contract acquisition efforts preferred
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams, mentoring staff, and conducting training
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft policy guidance and executive-level summaries
  • Experience interacting directly with federal clients, contracting officers, and legal stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and compliance tracking systems
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance required; higher-level clearance preferred.
