About the role
- Focus on building best-in-class processes and standards around personal safety, process safety, environmental, manufacturing processes, maintenance, and compliance.
- Integrate new manufacturing sites into the business as Avantor grows organically and through acquisitions.
- Produce products that meet customer expectations by enforcing good manufacturing practices; developing and improving production and engineering processes; designing production planning and control systems and procedures; developing and enforcing inspection.
- Partner with the Quality/Regulatory Affairs and Research and Development leadership teams to ensure the most effective approaches for manufacturing to support design controls, technical transfer of new products, improvement to existing products and execution of the quality system
- Define and execute Avantor’s global operations' digital transformation strategy.
- Lead the integration of cutting-edge manufacturing, supply chain, and quality technologies to drive the organization's efficiency, quality, and agility.
- Lead Industry 4.0 adoption, including IoT, automation, AI-driven analytics, and digital twin technology.
- Partner with IT, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing leaders to integrate digital solutions across sites.
- Establish a vision for digital transformation that drives competitive advantage and operational excellence.
- Motivate and influence adjacent and cross-functional organizations, including IT, Supply Chain and Manufacturing, to achieve the integrated digital solutions vision across sites.
- Drive Smart Manufacturing initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and predictive maintenance.
- Champion the use of advanced analytics, AI/ML, and real-time process monitoring to optimize operations.
- Foster a culture of innovation by staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Implement Quality by Design (QbD) principles through data-driven process control.
- Enhance automation, robotics, and machine learning adoption in manufacturing and logistics.
- Optimize technology investments to drive cost reduction, yield improvements, and achieve sustainability goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce cycle times.
- Build and mentor a high-performing Digital Manufacturing team to support digital transformation.
- Collaborate with R&D, Engineering, IT, and Operations leaders to align technology roadmaps.
- Drive a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement across global sites.
- Lead talent development initiatives to build a pipeline of future leaders in digital manufacturing.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Represent Avantor at industry conferences and events to showcase the company’s digital manufacturing capabilities.
- Develop strong relationships with external partners to drive collaborative innovation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 15+ years of experience in manufacturing technology, digital transformation, or operational IT leadership, leading to BMM Level 4 or similar predictive, data-driven equivalent
- Experience in life sciences, chemicals, or advanced manufacturing industries preferred
- Proven track record leading multi-site, global technology initiatives
- Expertise in Industry 4.0, automation, AI/ML, MES, ERP integration, and cloud technologies
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing process control, QbD, and supply chain analytics
- Strong business acumen with a track record of driving measurable operational improvements
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence at all levels of the organization
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with a focus on fostering a collaborative, results-driven culture
- Ability to differentiate communication based on the audience
