About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Works independently to draft, review, and revise agreements, including form agreements for routine sales activities, as well as non-standard agreements for customers, supplier, distributor, clinical, service and consulting agreements.
- Learn Avantor contracting policies and analyze draft contracts in accordance with policies
- Work with Sourcing, Sales and the IT team to advise on the review of complex IT vendor agreements and digital product contracting efforts.
- Develop and support the development of playbooks and templates for consistent legal review across IT, security engagements and technology agreements.
- Assist with the review of data processing agreements.
- Ensure alignment with IT and business strategies.
- Determine when complex legal and factual issues must be escalated to senior attorneys and assist in resolution of issues
- Assist in creating, implementing and managing systems that enable the efficient creation, negotiation, oversight and ultimately execution of Avantor’s agreements
- Coordinate contract negotiation with multiple cross-departmental functions
- Obtain all appropriate and necessary internal approvals for contract terms and provisions
- Identify opportunities for process improvements
- Perform file management and records retention duties
- Give and welcome constructive feedback; contribute to building a positive team spirit
- Requires advanced abilities for contract negotiation
- Requires ability to communicate with Senior Leadership across the firm regarding legal risks and advise on possible solutions based on expertise
- Provide assistance and guidance to Contracts Specialists within department
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 5 - 10 years applicable professional experience in a law firm or corporate legal department
- Experience handling multiple matters at the same time and meeting quick turnaround deadlines
- Ability to translate technical concepts into practical legal guidance for cross-functional teams
- Demonstrates excellent judgment
- Demonstrates ability to collaborate
- Initiates, embraces and drives change in a dynamic environment
- Works well independently and in a team
- Experience providing timely and strategic legal advice
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
- JD required from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law and in good standing with the bar of at least one US State or the District of Columbia.
