About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Maintain and advance AvalancheGo, the software powering the Avalanche network, and manage team and community contributions.
  • Hold the merge bar for network-critical code and steward backward compatibility for node operators and downstream Avalanche L1 builders.
  • Define and enforce production-quality engineering standards.
  • Design, build, and advance consensus, P2P networking, state management and synchronization, the VM interface, and EVM integrations.
  • Establish observability standards, define node-performance SLOs, and lead incident reviews and postmortems.
  • Own versioning, upgrade coordination, backward compatibility, staged rollouts, and testing quality for network-critical code.
  • Mentor senior engineers, run design reviews, and spread technical context across the team.
  • Write ADRs, release notes, and technical communications; engage external contributors.
  • Originate and champion Avalanche Community Proposals and guide AvalancheGo’s readiness for protocol upgrades.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years at staff/lead level or equivalent scope
  • Expert-level Go, including goroutines, channels, race detector, pprof, benchmarking, dependency management, and idiomatic API design
  • Significant open source experience as a maintainer or sustained core contributor on a widely used project
  • Public record of code reviews, RFCs/design documents, and community engagement
  • Production experience designing, shipping, and operating distributed systems at scale
  • Experience with consensus or replication, P2P networking, state synchronization, or comparable high-availability systems
  • Strong testing discipline across unit, property-based/fuzz, integration, and end-to-end network testing
  • Experience building CI that enforces testing standards; GitHub Actions preferred
  • Experience with semantic versioning, backward compatibility, migration paths, and coordinated network upgrades
  • Working fluency with Linux-based infrastructure, Docker/Kubernetes, and observability tooling such as Prometheus/Grafana
  • BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience
