About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead reform and change initiatives, including the design, implementation and embedding of policy, strategy and governance frameworks in a complex, multi stakeholder, government environment
  • Develop and deliver enterprise-wide data strategies, including initiatives to lift data maturity and data literacy and driving organisational change
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and infrastructure, including transition from on premise systems to modern cloud data platforms
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships across business areas and enhance the reputation of the Data, Business Operations and Technology Branch
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team of data analysts and engineers to translate complex data into actionable insights and business strategies
  • Manage data collection, governance and modelling, ensuring data integrity, compliance and privacy requirements are met
  • Provide strategic advice and present data-driven insights to executives to inform decision-making
  • Manage procurement, vendor engagement and contract performance to achieve value‑for‑money outcomes
  • Manage and coordinate the section’s budget and resources to support the timely delivery of high-quality outputs
  • Lead, coach and mentor a geographically dispersed team, providing clear direction and fostering a collaborative, high performing culture.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Tertiary qualifications in data science, analytics, information systems, information technology, computer science, statistics, public policy, or a related discipline, or equivalent senior level experience are desirable
  • Developed stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders, and build and maintain strong relationships across NEMA and wider APS
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and delivering complex cloud data warehouse and analytics services
  • NV1 security clearance (or ability to obtain).
