About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership, direction, coordination, management, succession planning, and support for technical and blasting services throughout the LLC/Region
- Provide advanced technical assistance for mine planning, blast design, post-blast analysis, blast optimization, and other blasting service needs
- Establish, maintain, and lead a team of technical representatives
- Assure compliance with regulatory agencies and company policies and procedures
- Conduct regular blast audits for safety, efficiency, and compliance
- Be present on customer sites on short notice throughout the LLC/Region
- Lead investigations of product complaints, misfires, flyrocks, and other blasting incidents
- Facilitate the Blaster-in-Training program and annual blaster refresher training
- Develop and maintain proficiency with software and technologies for technical services
- Maintain drone certification requirements and support team drone certification
- Help manage ordering, maintenance, and training of technical blasting equipment
- Develop relationships and internal networks with technical leaders across Austin Powder
- Support manufacturing objectives to improve explosive product quality, performance, and profitability
- Participate in customer performance review meetings
- Understand local, state, and federal governing agency rules and regulations
- Monitor explosives industry news, events, trends, products, applications, and technical advancements
- Assist with responses to RFPs
- Report directly to the LLC/Regional President/GM and participate as a member of the management team
- Manage direct reports based on the size of the technical services team
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completed bachelor’s degree, preferably in Mining Engineering
- Relevant experience in lieu of education may be considered
- 5+ years’ experience as a mining engineer, blaster-in-charge, or related industry experience
- Ability to provide advanced technical assistance in mine planning, blast design, post-blast analysis, and blast optimization
- Knowledge of company products and equipment used in blasting applications
- Ability to lead and manage a team of technical specialists
- Ability to analyze, interpret, evaluate, explain, problem solve, and make decisions
- Willingness to work hands-on with teams
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Ability to organize multiple schedules, events, and meetings
- Ability to train internal and external stakeholders on blasting topics
- Ability to identify ideas and develop improved services
- Ability to recognize industry trends and advance innovation
- Must be a licensed drone pilot (FAA UAV Part 701)
- Ability to work in office, plant, and outdoor environments
- Must be located within the LLC/Region
- Ability to travel up to 75% overnight
