About the role

  • Develop concepts and well-engineered mechanical designs for mechanisms used in automated assembly systems.
  • Use CAD to produce layouts, parts, assemblies, detail drawings, and bill of materials.
  • Work with other project team members to meet or exceed the Customer’s expectations regarding function, quality and schedule.
  • Adhere to all established procedures as defined by ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook.
  • Design cam, servo, and air operated stations and make changes to existing designs.
  • Ensure the design is functional, robust, and cost effective.
  • Innovate and use good judgment to incorporate ATS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Set and maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives.
  • Support and participate in quality management program.
  • Create detail drawings, assembly drawings, bill of materials, organize release packages, and update drawings.
  • Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
  • Prepare pneumatic and timing diagrams and select appropriate sensors.
  • Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues.
  • Problem-solve design or detail issues and update all appropriate documentation.
  • Communicate ideas and comprehend information both verbally and in written form.
  • Follow all policy and procedures to adhere to International Standardization Organization (ISO) 9001 certification requirements.
  • Help guide and mentor Level I Mechanical Engineers with the execution of their designs and projects.

Requirements

  • College degree in mechanical engineering, technology or equivalent experience
  • Two to six (2-6) years of automation experience
  • Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, 3D Solid Works or similar CAD systems
  • Proficient with computers, including programs such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, Microsoft Office suite, etc.
  • Able to operate fax machines, copiers, printers/plotters, etc.
  • Proficient with inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, etc.
