About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop concepts and well-engineered mechanical designs for mechanisms used in automated assembly systems.
- Use CAD to produce layouts, parts, assemblies, detail drawings, and bill of materials.
- Work with other project team members to meet or exceed the Customer’s expectations regarding function, quality and schedule.
- Adhere to all established procedures as defined by ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook.
- Design cam, servo, and air operated stations and make changes to existing designs.
- Ensure the design is functional, robust, and cost effective.
- Innovate and use good judgment to incorporate ATS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Set and maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives.
- Support and participate in quality management program.
- Create detail drawings, assembly drawings, bill of materials, organize release packages, and update drawings.
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
- Prepare pneumatic and timing diagrams and select appropriate sensors.
- Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues.
- Problem-solve design or detail issues and update all appropriate documentation.
- Communicate ideas and comprehend information both verbally and in written form.
- Follow all policy and procedures to adhere to International Standardization Organization (ISO) 9001 certification requirements.
- Help guide and mentor Level I Mechanical Engineers with the execution of their designs and projects.
Requirements
What you’ll need- College degree in mechanical engineering, technology or equivalent experience
- Two to six (2-6) years of automation experience
- Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, 3D Solid Works or similar CAD systems
- Proficient with computers, including programs such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, Microsoft Office suite, etc.
- Able to operate fax machines, copiers, printers/plotters, etc.
- Proficient with inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, etc.
