About the role

  • Lead the development of controls architecture for large, multi-module automation systems
  • Program control and vision systems for cam, servo, and air-operated stations, as well as test and electrical devices
  • Ensure electrical design and software architecture are functional, robust, and cost-effective
  • Incorporate ATS Life Sciences Chicago standards and regulatory requirements into every design
  • Research, specify, and select appropriate components and materials
  • Develop and maintain electrical wiring schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and release documentation
  • Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls as needed
  • Guide and support electricians in wiring and code compliance
  • Collaborate with suppliers to identify functional and economical design solutions
  • Contribute to project execution plans, ensuring adherence to schedule and budget
  • Troubleshoot and debug software issues alongside Mechanical Builders and Electricians
  • Document changes and updates thoroughly
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Controls Engineers I and II

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 6+ years of experience in automation and controls engineering
  • Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, servo control, and electrical design
  • Experience with machine vision systems (Cognex or Keyence) preferred
  • Proficient in EPLAN, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as calipers, micrometers, multimeters, and other measurement instruments
