Salary
💰 $120,000 - $155,000 per year
About the role
- Design, implement, and test FPGA-based functions for high-speed arbitrary waveform generation, image acquisition, digital control loops, and communication interfaces.
- Build and scale firmware for state-of-the-art platforms using AMD RFSoC and MicroTCA-based architectures to transition systems toward commercial deployment.
- Partner closely with quantum physicists and hardware engineers to translate experimental program requirements into robust, scalable functional block specifications.
- Perform rigorous logic design and verification within the Xilinx Vivado ecosystem, utilizing SystemVerilog and IP Catalog.
- Architect and automate comprehensive test procedures, develop SystemVerilog and cocotb simulation models and regression tests, as well as system-level hardware tests for CI/CD pipeline integration.
- Support the uptime of commercial quantum computers by monitoring field performance, debugging complex hardware/firmware integrations, and engineering permanent solutions to root-cause outages.
Requirements
- BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Experimental Physics, or a closely related field.
- 3–5+ years of relevant professional or postgraduate experience in FPGA design, verification, and hardware integration.
- Adaptable & Collaborative: You thrive in a start-up environment where you can take ownership of complex problems, drive engineering rigor, and help build the processes of the future.
- RTL Expertise: Deep proficiency in RTL design and verification, with a strong emphasis on SystemVerilog.
- Architecture & Tooling: Proven experience with the Xilinx/AMD Vivado ecosystem, targeting advanced SoCs (Zynq and explicitly RFSoC).
- Digital Circuit Design: Strong foundational expertise in FPGA architecture, microprocessors, and high-speed digital circuit functions.
- Hardware Integration: Hands-on experience integrating, debugging, and testing prototype electronics assemblies using laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers).
- Software & Scripting: Solid programming skills in Python, C, or C++ within a Linux environment for simulation, test automation, and hardware control.
- Modern Workflows: Familiarity with Git version control, CI/CD pipelines for firmware validation, and modern FPGA design best practices.
- Domain Curiosity: A strong willingness to learn atomic, optical, laser physics, and quantum mechanics concepts to put your engineering work into a deep-tech context.
- Bonus points: Previous experience designing and testing Software-Defined Radio (SDR), radio-frequency circuits, high-speed ADCs/DACs, and working within MicroTCA ecosystems.
