About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical leadership within the national D&AT practice and influence practice-wide initiatives and best practices
- Serve as a recognised expert and technical authority in Civil Water Engineering across AtkinsRéalis
- Represent AtkinsRéalis’ Civil Water Engineering expertise to current and prospective clients
- Collaborate with internal and external clients, operational staff, project teams, and external stakeholders
- Drive improvements to processes, services, and technical practices while maintaining engineering governance
- Oversee technical input into bid proposals and define delivery strategies for compliant, competitive submissions
- Identify cross-selling and business-growth opportunities and strengthen client relationships
- Grow, develop, and manage the national Civil Water engineering capability, including talent development and succession planning
- Anticipate business, regulatory, and technology challenges and advise senior leadership
- Provide strategic oversight across complex multidisciplinary projects, ensuring technical excellence, safe delivery, and alignment with objectives
- Act independently in challenging situations and escalate or resolve complex technical matters
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in Civil Water Engineering or equivalent
- Chartered Civil Water Engineer
- Extensive experience in progressively senior technical roles
- Significant leadership of complex, high-risk, cross-disciplinary projects and programmes
- Nationally or internationally recognised subject matter expertise in Civil Water Engineering
- Experience in risk assessment, quality control, proactive design management, and collaboration with MEICA, structures, and geotechnics disciplines
- Experience in the UK Water market is essential
- Proven leadership in design and delivery of large-scale Civil Water engineering projects for a design consultancy
- Experience working within multidisciplinary environments
- Experience identifying innovative solutions and challenging the status quo
- Comprehensive knowledge of hydraulics, wastewater and clean water infrastructure, water reuse, pipelines, and related civil water disciplines across design phases and construction
- Expert knowledge of current design codes, standards, and industry best practices, including CDM Regulations, Eurocodes, regulatory bodies, water utility standards, and NEC
- Proactive, highly motivated, and collaborative approach
- Strong communication skills and ability to convey complex ideas clearly and influence senior stakeholders
- Ability to work across diverse, international, and cross-cultural delivery environments
- Continuous improvement, technical standards, and innovation experience
- Commercial astuteness, including shaping winning proposals and driving practice or business growth
- Security clearance may be required
- Relevant UK security vetting may require proof of UK residency for 5 years or longer
