About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and work on Power Grid Utility and Substation Engineering projects
- Support or lead substation engineering project teams
- Develop and review in-ground and above-ground civil/foundation and structural calculations, plans, and details
- Develop and review civil/structural design packages for medium- and high-voltage substations
- Lead civil/structural design for site development, foundations, equipment support structures, control buildings, ancillary structures, and material lists
- Perform design studies and calculations and apply physical substation design knowledge
- Coordinate design activities to maintain project schedules, budgets, quality requirements, and successful project completion
- Assist with site visits, station walkdowns, estimating, and project meetings
- Prepare specifications for material, equipment, and construction work
- Deliver accurate civil/structural designs meeting industry standards, specifications, and prudent engineering practices
- Review internal and external designs for code compliance, design practice, and constructability
- Coordinate design activities with multidisciplinary project team members
- Provide construction support by resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing site inspections
- Maintain project documentation for engineering studies, calculations, design packages, as-built requirements, and return data
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines, Drafting, Project Management, and other internal support groups
- Mentor and guide developing engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from a recognized institution
- Minimum of ten years of professional civil/structural engineering experience for Senior positions
- Prior utility or utility consulting experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred
- Strong client focus
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and command of the English language
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NERC, and FERC regulations
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment and provide project ownership
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other typical structural design software
- Ability to work additional hours as workload dictates
