About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support or lead substation engineering project teams
- Develop General Arrangements, Equipment Plans, Elevations, Sections, Control House Layouts, grounding designs, conduit and cable designs, Bills of Materials, and cable schedules
- Develop and review electrical design packages for medium- and high-voltage substations
- Lead physical electrical substation design, including site and equipment layouts, elevations, buswork, ground grids, lightning shielding, and material lists
- Perform design studies and apply physical electrical substation design knowledge
- Coordinate design activities to maintain schedules, budgets, quality requirements, and successful project completion
- Assist with site visits, station walkdowns, estimating, and project meetings
- Select equipment and materials and prepare specifications for material, equipment, and construction work
- Deliver accurate electrical designs meeting industry standards, specifications, and prudent engineering practices
- Review internal and external designs for code compliance, design practice, and constructability
- Coordinate design activities with multidisciplinary project team members
- Provide construction support, resolve site queries, attend site meetings, and perform site inspections
- Maintain project documentation for engineering studies, calculations, design packages, as-built requirements, and return data
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines, Drafting, and Project Management
- Mentor and guide developing engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution
- Minimum of five years of professional experience focused on substation engineering for Intermediate positions
- Minimum of ten years of professional experience focused on substation engineering for Senior positions
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD preferred
- Prior utility consulting experience is a plus
- Strong client focus and customer service
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and command of the English language
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE standards
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to provide project ownership
