About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collect and interpret water quality data
  • Manage and assess hydrological and environmental data
  • Conduct groundwater and hydrogeological investigations
  • Undertake river habitat, hydromorphological and geomorphological surveys and assessments
  • Carry out freshwater ecological and hydro-ecological assessments
  • Characterise catchments and perform environmental analysis
  • Conduct literature reviews and gather evidence
  • Support WFD, AA, NIS, EIAR and other environmental assessments
  • Assist with river restoration, fish passage, natural flood management and catchment management projects
  • Prepare technical reports, figures, presentations and client deliverables
  • Work within multidisciplinary project teams delivering infrastructure and environmental projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Relevant degree (BSc, BEng, MSc or equivalent) in freshwater or aquatic ecology, environmental science, environmental management, hydrology, hydrogeology, geology, earth sciences, physical geography, environmental engineering, water resources management, catchment science, river science, geomorphology, natural sciences or another relevant environmental discipline
  • Strong interest in freshwater environments and water-related environmental issues
  • Knowledge or academic experience in freshwater ecology, hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality, hydromorphology/fluvial geomorphology, or catchment management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Full driving licence or willingness to obtain one
  • Experience, knowledge or interest in WFD, River Basin Management Planning, freshwater biodiversity, water quality monitoring and assessment, statistical/analytical/data-processing techniques, hydrological/hydraulic modelling, groundwater assessment, EIA, AA, river restoration and fish passage, nature-based solutions, natural flood management, or environmental legislation and policy would be advantageous
