About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct grounding system design and analysis, including grid resistance, touch/step voltage, and fault current distribution
- Perform lightning protection studies, surge analysis, and shielding assessments
- Execute induction studies for overhead lines and pipelines to evaluate AC interference and mitigation strategies
- Model and analyze bus configurations for short-circuit, thermal, and electromagnetic performance
- Utilize software tools such as CDEGS, WinIGS, and optionally PSCAD or EMTP to simulate and analyze power system phenomena
- Generate detailed technical reports, calculations, and drawings
- Coordinate with project managers, utilities, and clients to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE 80, IEEE 665, NESC, NEC)
- Support multidisciplinary teams in substation, transmission, and industrial facility design
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s degree in Power Systems or Electromagnetics
- Proficiency in CDEGS (certification is an asset)
- 3+ years of experience in power system studies with a focus on grounding, lightning, and induction
- Experience with WinIGS required; familiarity with PSCAD, ETAP, or PSS/E is a plus
- Familiarity with HVDC, FACTS, or renewable integration studies is a plus
