About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide code consulting services related to building code, fire code, and life safety compliance
- Develop and support fire and life safety strategies
- Prepare and review code reports, fire and life safety strategies, technical memoranda, and design narratives
- Review drawings and specifications for compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and project management teams to resolve code-related issues
- Interface with clients, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and third-party reviewers
- Support business development and represent the fire protection discipline internally and externally
- For Senior-level candidates: provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, technical tools, and best practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or eligibility for licensure is an asset
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering or code consulting
- Strong working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), National Fire Code of Canada (NFCC), and applicable provincial codes
- Knowledge of relevant fire protection standards, including UL/ULC, NFPA, and CSA
- Knowledge of nuclear codes and standards is a definite asset, including CSA N293, N393, and related regulatory frameworks
- Ability to communicate complex code concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to support multi-disciplinary projects in regulated environments
- Valid driver’s license.
