Systems Engineer

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Apply recognised systems engineering processes, such as ISO 15288, across one or more phases of the engineering lifecycle, with support from senior colleagues
- Use Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools (e.g. Sparx EA, Cameo) to support system design activities, applying modelling languages such as UML/SysML and relevant architectural views
- Support requirements engineering activities, helping to ensure requirements are clear, traceable, and linked to verification and validation activities
- Contribute to the application of appropriate engineering lifecycles in line with project needs and governance
- Work within project teams using a range of development and delivery methodologies, contributing to planning and delivery activities
- Develop an understanding of the MOD acquisition framework and apply Knowledge in Defence (KiD) proportionately under guidance
- Communicate technical information clearly within the team and contribute to discussions with non‑engineers, building effective working relationships.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree qualified (Level 6 or above) in a relevant STEM subject or possess equivalent depth of experience in an engineering field
- Working towards professional recognition with an appropriate institution, such as CEng or CSEP
- Basic knowledge of MBSE approaches and tools (e.g., Sparx EA, Cameo)
- Basic knowledge of modelling languages and architecture frameworks, including UML/SysML, ArchiMate, TOGAF, and MODAF
- An understanding of engineering lifecycles, including their selection, tailoring, and implementation
- An understanding of the wider aspects of delivery, such as commercial, finance and planning
- Ability to apply systems engineering processes (e.g., ISO 15288:2023) across the lifecycle
- Proven track record in managing projects and teams across various development methods
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships
- Ability to understand, simplify, and explain subject matter to non-engineers and senior stakeholders.
