About the role
- Lead a 2–5 person team while remaining hands-on (~50%), designing and building scalable, cloud-native services and platform capabilities through coding, reviews, and solution design.
- Provide technical direction across Agile delivery, software design, systems engineering, database, and production support domains.
- Drive event-based architecture and delivery execution using Kafka and Azure Event Hubs, including requirements gathering, analysis, and decomposing work into feature-level deliverables.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (product, engineering, architecture, program management) to unblock delivery and align on outcomes.
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices (quality, security, performance, observability, and maintainability).
- Architect and build cloud-native solutions using Azure and data technologies such as Cassandra, Solr, and PostgreSQL.
- Champion modern developer workflows and AI-assisted productivity (e.g., Copilot/Windsurf) to improve throughput and code quality.
Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience delivering complex systems, with demonstrated ownership of end-to-end execution and team delivery.
- 3+ years leading engineering teams with strong hands-on backend expertise building highly scalable, high-volume/high-transaction Java applications (e-commerce or similar) from design through production.
- Proven experience with cloud and data technologies such as Azure, Kafka / Azure Event Hub, Cassandra/Solr, and PostgreSQL.
- Demonstrated ability to gather requirements, translate them into technical designs, and decompose work into executable delivery items.
- Hands-on experience with AI productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, or similar) in daily engineering workflows.
- Preferred: Experience with Spring Boot, microservices, and Kubernetes-based infrastructure
- Digital transformation experience, including migration of legacy platforms to modern architectures
- Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science/Engineering or closely related field
