About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the strategic planning, delivery, and continuous evolution of scientific publications and presentations for AstraZeneca-sponsored regulatory clinical studies and post-marketing surveillances in Japan.
  • Drive strategies and guiding principles to maximize the value of publications originating from R&D activities to enhance scientific impact, external reputation, and clinical decision-making in Japan.
  • Act as a key scientific partner to R&D by leading scientific discussions beyond publication execution, ensuring publications are positioned as strategic scientific assets.
  • Drive alignment and execution of Japan publication strategies across therapeutic areas, in close collaboration with TA teams, R&D, and global stakeholders, ensuring consistency with TA-level, global, and R&D objectives.
  • Maximize the scientific and clinical value of R&D-generated data through optimized publication planning, sequencing, and scientific positioning for Japanese healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Lead the simplification, standardization, and optimization of publication-related processes, including the identification and implementation of AI and automation solutions, to enhance efficiency, quality, and new ways of working.
  • Lead and actively contribute to scientific discussions on data interpretation, publication scope, and scientific messaging, serving as a scientific discussion leader within cross-functional teams, particularly with R&D and clinical experts.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional publication activities, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality publications through effective collaboration with investigators, and global publication leads.
  • Ensure compliance with international publication guidelines (e.g., ISMPP, GPP) and AstraZeneca Publications Policy, promoting ethical, transparent, and responsible publication practices.
  • Oversee publication activities across multiple projects, including strategic planning, quality governance, and complex issue resolution.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and quality review for junior and band D staff.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Several years of experience in medical communications within the pharmaceutical industry or a medical communications agency.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing publication or scientific communication strategies, preferably linked to R&D objectives.
  • Therapeutic knowledge in oncology (drug development, clinical research, or medical affairs).
  • Solid knowledge of the drug development process.
  • Familiarity with regulations, policies, standards, and SOPs, particularly related to the publication process.
  • Extensive project and budget experience in cross-functional collaboration. ( mandatory for CL E)
  • Proven experience in communication and negotiation with global teams. ( mandatory for CL E)
