Senior Staff Accountant

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own month-end close activities related to expenses, including the preparation and review of expense-related journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications, and serve as the primary expense contact
- Support other aspects of the FuturePlan monthly close, including ancillary revenue accruals, while ensuring compliance with internal control requirements
- Prepare journal entries, perform balance sheet reconciliations, conduct account fluctuation analyses, and investigate variances
- Prepare and analyze monthly profit and loss statements and balance sheet reporting
- Support external audit activities, including the preparation of supporting schedules and response to audit inquiries, as needed
- Develop and maintain clear and complete narrative documentation for accounting processes, procedures, and controls
- Ensure accurate revenue and expense recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP; research technical accounting guidance and draft accounting memos as required
- Lead and contribute to special projects in support of management and broader finance initiatives
- Partner with business leaders and cross-functional teams to track, analyze, and explain revenues and expenses
- Proactively identify accounting issues and recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of financial reporting
- Support the professional development of members of the accounting team including co-ops and interns
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
- Industry accounting experience or a mix of public accounting and industry accounting experience
- 2-4 years of accounting experience
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required
- Ability to work effectively within tight timeframes and meet deadlines
- Highly analytical and detail oriented with an aptitude for problem solving
- Ability to work independently; strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to streamline and improve accounting processes
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives
