About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Reporting to the Director, Sales, Australia and New Zealand, the Business Development Manager is responsible for driving and maximizing revenue potential for assigned retail, wholesale, custom groups, and group tour block accounts.
  • Account Management: Strategic account management to drive ongoing growth and engagement across multiple channels (wholesale, retail, group tour block) to achieve set revenue targets for the region.
  • Establish and document key accounts process flows in relation to selling Rocky Mountaineer product and leverage this knowledge to drive change, process improvement, efficiencies, and revenue growth.
  • Identify and develop new trade opportunities to grow Rocky Mountaineer sales.
  • Source and convert corporate and special interest custom group sales opportunities with the assistance of the Custom Groups team in Vancouver.
  • Effectively utilize the Salesforce CRM system to build account knowledge across the business, and enhance reporting and data capture capabilities.
  • Deliver product training and sales calls to targeted distribution partners, growing their confidence and knowledge in selling Rocky Mountaineer products.
  • Plan, manage and attend trade, consumer events, travel expos and road shows in the local regions as a knowledge expert for RM ensuring that RM is promoted as the preferred and first choice for consumers and trade.
  • Develop and execute sales initiatives and local area marketing programs ensuring maximum return on investment.
  • Work with the Partnership Marketing team to help negotiate and deliver annual co-op marketing plans to drive revenue with key accounts.
  • Support co-op marketing plans with targeted sales blitzes in the local region.
  • Support Sales Coordinator with front line responses on past, present and future bookings.
  • Liaise with Travel Agents and guests regarding bookings.
  • Support Learning Journeys (Fams) through the management of key account participation and engagement, including escorting these trips when required.
  • Take an active role in the activities of the local, regional and global organization to deliver expertise supporting key projects and initiatives as required.
  • Proactively share market intelligence, sales & marketing initiatives and best practices with the local, regional and global teams.
  • Actively support fellow team members with trade activities and travel schedules. Help align goals and values with those of the overall Rocky Mountaineer organization.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Qualification in Sales, Business or related discipline is desirable.
  • University degree in business management and/or travel/tourism.
  • 2-3 years of related experience with at least 2 years' experience in international travel and tourism sales environment.
  • Established relationships with key account decision makers and travel agents; sound knowledge and network of the Australian travel industry and its distribution systems.
  • Strong presentation and training skills, both in person and via webinars and with audiences ranging from large consumer groups to the boardroom.
  • Skilled at tailoring and targeting communication to both internal and external key influencers/audiences; logical, concise, and audience appropriate written material.
  • Strong knowledge of Salesforce.com (or similar CRM sales and marketing system), Power BI, Microsoft Office and familiar with reservation systems.
  • Ability to work with numbers, analyse and interpret reports to support strategy.
