About the role
- Oversee all accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll functions.
- Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and proper coding of transactions.
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Monitor cash flow and develop projections to ensure financial stability.
- Support the annual budgeting process, working closely with leadership to align resources with strategic goals.
- Prepare budget-to-actual reports and identify variances for management review.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices (FASB standards).
- Manage grant reporting and restricted fund accounting.
- Oversee compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including annual IRS Form 990 preparation.
- Coordinate and support the annual audit with external auditors.
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Recommend and implement systems/software improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and the Board Finance Committee to provide clear, insightful financial information.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure alignment between program budgets and actual expenditures.
Requirements
- Bachelor
1s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in nonprofit accounting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct) and Excel/Google Sheets.
- Experience with grant reporting and restricted fund tracking.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and integrity.
- Strong communication skills, able to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff and board members.
- Commitment to the organization's mission.
- The candidate must physically sit in Little Rock.
