About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide technical and design consulting services for electrical power systems
Design electrical power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding systems
Support planning, design, and construction of municipal water and wastewater facilities
Develop design criteria and perform electrical calculations
Prepare one-line diagrams, control schematics, plans, and specifications
Coordinate electrical design across multiple projects and collaborate with the Control Systems group
Manage tasks and oversee the work of junior staff
Review construction submittals and respond to RFIs
Conduct field inspections
Ensure QA/QC and safety compliance
Perform or supervise power system analyses, including arc flash hazard studies
Support project needs through approximately 5–10% travel, primarily within Southern California
Mentor junior engineers and technicians and help deliver projects on time and within budget

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, preferably with an emphasis on power
7 years of relevant work experience
Fundamentals of Engineering / Engineer in Training certificate
Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in California, or able to acquire registration via reciprocity from another state in the USA
Strong experience in the municipal water and wastewater industry
Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code and related NFPA standards
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multi-disciplinary environments
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Commitment to mentoring junior engineers and technicians
Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget
Solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
Basic understanding of AutoCAD
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, MS Project, and Outlook
Working knowledge of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, Field Instrumentation, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) as they relate to electrical design
Active participation in regional and/or national professional associations
