About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide technical and design consulting services for electrical power systems
  • Design electrical power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding systems
  • Support planning, design, and construction of municipal water and wastewater facilities
  • Develop design criteria and perform electrical calculations
  • Prepare one-line diagrams, control schematics, plans, and specifications
  • Coordinate electrical design across multiple projects and collaborate with the Control Systems group
  • Manage tasks and oversee the work of junior staff
  • Review construction submittals and respond to RFIs
  • Conduct field inspections
  • Ensure QA/QC and safety compliance
  • Perform or supervise power system analyses, including arc flash hazard studies
  • Support project needs through approximately 5–10% travel, primarily within Southern California
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians and help deliver projects on time and within budget

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, preferably with an emphasis on power
  • 7 years of relevant work experience
  • Fundamentals of Engineering / Engineer in Training certificate
  • Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in California, or able to acquire registration via reciprocity from another state in the USA
  • Strong experience in the municipal water and wastewater industry
  • Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code and related NFPA standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to mentoring junior engineers and technicians
  • Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, MS Project, and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, Field Instrumentation, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) as they relate to electrical design
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional associations
