About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a design engineer for bridges and transportation structures, including new design, inspection, rehabilitation, and repair
- Lead, assign, and review work while providing technical guidance to team members
- Develop engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Evaluate engineering alternatives and apply sound judgment in design decisions
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle
- Prepare and present technical reports, documentation, and design deliverables
- Perform structural analysis and design with increasing complexity under senior review
- Provide mentorship and oversight to junior structural engineers on small to mid-sized projects
- Coordinate across transportation, geotechnical, drainage, and other disciplines to ensure integrated solutions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or Structural Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Minimum 7+ years of bridge engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee or ability to obtain Tennessee PE within 6–12 months
- Strong experience in structural analysis and design
- Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
- Experience with Bentley software suite, such as OpenBridge and MicroStation
- Proficiency with structural analysis tools, such as Midas, LEAP, or similar
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent working knowledge of relevant design codes, including AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
