About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare and oversee detailed civil design drawings, models, and documentation for transportation projects using industry-standard CAD and BIM software (e.g., Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads).
  • Develop geometric layouts, grading plans, cross-sections, and construction details for roads, intersections, bridges, and transit corridors.
  • Coordinate design interfaces with other disciplines (structures, utilities, environmental, traffic).
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable Canadian transportation standards, codes, and regulations (TAC, CSA, provincial guidelines).
  • Contribute to project planning, cost estimation, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Support the preparation of tender documents, specifications, and reports.
  • Participate in design reviews, workshops, and client meetings.
  • Address design queries and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Integrate sustainable design principles and digital technologies to optimize project outcomes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and quality.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience in civil design for transportation infrastructure projects in the US
  • Proven track record in delivering complex highway, road, or transit projects.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads/MicroStation, and related design software.
  • Strong understanding of US design standards and practices.
  • Ability to mentor and supervise junior designers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Certification as a P.Eng., or equivalent, is an asset.
