About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform engineering design for roadway drainage and design-build projects including collector streets, arterials, expressways, interstates, and bridge replacements.
- Conduct bridge hydraulic studies, culvert design, closed drainage system design, pond design, and erosion/sedimentation control.
- Prepare construction plans, project displays, cost estimates, reports, and technical memos.
- Lead marketing efforts for drainage projects including proposal development, letters of response, presentations, and interviews.
- Provide quality control reviews for drainage calculations and plans.
- Utilize design software such as MicroStation, Inroads, ORD-SUDA, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Excel, GIS, ICPR, HEC-RAS, HY8, FlowMaster, Pond Pack, StormCAD, SMS, SRH2D, and HEC-RAS 2D.
- Coordinate with project managers and other disciplines (roadway, structures, utilities).
- Mentor and direct junior engineers.
- Work independently with minimal technical supervision.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- EIT working towards PE License within 6 month of hire
- 7+ years of DOT drainage design experience
- Experience working on DOT projects
- In depth understanding of Bridge Hydraulics Analysis
- Understanding of FEMA floodplain regulations
- Knowledge of stormwater design including open channel conveyance and closed drainage systems
- Experience with permitting requirements of Water Management Districts and FDEP
- Knowledge of stormwater treatment using appropriate BMPs suitable for the linear nature of transportation projects
- Possess effective communication (written and verbal), teamwork skills and the flexibility to complete a wide range of tasks including field work.
