About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Reviews the progress of the work to ensure compliance with the contract documents.
Includes progressive monitoring of materials and methods used as well as inspection of the finished products before acceptance.
Assures appropriate measurement and payments are made as necessary.
Responsible for proactively reviewing the contract documents to anticipate, identify, and/or prepare any change orders needed to resolve conflicts and/or recommend improvements.
Ensures the safety of Construction Management employees, State employees, and Contractor’s employees, as well as the traveling public by observing the contractor’s operations and traffic conditions.
Reviews contractor operations for compliance with CAL OSHA regulations.
Provides directions to staff to ensure complete, accurate, and timely contract records.
Plans, reviews and assigns work of subordinate field or construction field office personnel.
Reviews construction processes and engineering layouts.
Reviews project activities with client and contractor’s field supervision resolving disputes and other daily issues.
Oversees materials testing activities.
Attends and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.

Requirements

What you’ll need

A minimum of 15 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
At least 5 years working as a Resident Engineer on Caltrans Highway improvement projects of similar size and complexity
Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related field (e.g. Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, etc.)
Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.
