About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Reviews the progress of the work to ensure compliance with the contract documents.
- Includes progressive monitoring of materials and methods used as well as inspection of the finished products before acceptance.
- Assures appropriate measurement and payments are made as necessary.
- Responsible for proactively reviewing the contract documents to anticipate, identify, and/or prepare any change orders needed to resolve conflicts and/or recommend improvements.
- Ensures the safety of Construction Management employees, State employees, and Contractor’s employees, as well as the traveling public by observing the contractor’s operations and traffic conditions.
- Reviews contractor operations for compliance with CAL OSHA regulations.
- Provides directions to staff to ensure complete, accurate, and timely contract records.
- Plans, reviews and assigns work of subordinate field or construction field office personnel.
- Reviews construction processes and engineering layouts.
- Reviews project activities with client and contractor’s field supervision resolving disputes and other daily issues.
- Oversees materials testing activities.
- Attends and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
Requirements
What you’ll need- A minimum of 15 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
- At least 5 years working as a Resident Engineer on Caltrans Highway improvement projects of similar size and complexity
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related field (e.g. Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, etc.)
- Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.
