Survey Manager
ArcadisSurvey Manager overseeing day-to-day surveying operations in Cincinnati region for civil engineering projects. Providing technical oversight and staff leadership while ensuring project standards are met.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and coordinate survey services for multiple projects, including topographic surveys, construction staking, utility surveys, ALTA support, and as-built documentation.
- Translate project requirements into survey scopes, work plans, schedules, and crew assignments.
- Review field data, calculations, and CAD files prior to submittal to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Coordinate survey activities with civil engineering teams, construction staff, and external stakeholders.
- Support proposal development with scope input, staffing plans, and fee estimates related to survey work.
- Lead and supervise survey field crews, technicians, and office staff.
- Mentor junior staff in field methods, data processing, and project delivery standards.
- Coordinate staffing needs, manage workloads, and balance field and office resources.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance feedback in coordination with department leadership.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company safety policies and site-specific requirements.
- Implement and maintain survey QA/QC procedures across field and office work.
- Identify and resolve technical or field issues before they impact project delivery.
- Ensure survey deliverables align with applicable regulations and client expectations; coordinate with licensed surveyors for final review and sealing where required.
- Oversee the effective use of survey equipment, software, and data management workflows.
- Evaluate and recommend new survey technologies, tools, or process improvements.
- Maintain survey equipment inventories and coordinate calibration, maintenance, and upgrades.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in surveying, including field and office responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading survey crews or managing survey projects.
- Strong understanding of construction support surveys and coordination with engineering teams.
- Licensure not required; experience working under the direction of a licensed surveyor is expected.
- Proficiency with GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, and conventional survey methods.
- Working knowledge of CAD and survey software (e.g., Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble, Leica, or equivalent).
- Understanding of coordinate systems, control networks, and survey data workflows.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and construction drawings.
