About the role

  • Engineering design for numerous roadway drainage and design-build projects including collector streets, urban arterials, rural and urban expressways, interstates, and bridge replacements in Michigan and Ohio.
  • Assist in all aspects of roadway drainage design including bridge hydraulic studies, culvert design, closed drainage system design, post construction water quality structures design, and erosion and sedimentation control.
  • Prepare construction plans and project displays.
  • Prepare cost estimates, reports and technical memos.
  • Utilize various design software including MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Excel, GIS, HEC-RAS, HY8, FlowMaster, ICPR, StormCAD, SMS, SRH2D, and HEC-RAS 2D to assist with the design and preparation of construction plans.
  • Coordinate with project managers, ecologist, and roadway engineers.
  • Direct junior engineer’s design activities.

Requirements

  • 7 or more years of drainage design and project management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Professional Engineer
  • Experience working on MDOT projects a plus.
  • Basic understanding of FEMA floodplain regulations
  • Knowledge of stormwater design including open channel conveyance and closed drainage systems.
  • Knowledge of stormwater treatment using appropriate BMPs suitable for the linear nature of transportation projects.
  • Use of various software platforms including Bentley’s StormCAD, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster, ICPR, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY8, ICPR, SWMM, SMS, SRH2D, and HEC-RAS 2D.
  • Possess good communication (written and verbal) skills and the flexibility to complete a wide range of tasks including field work.
  • Exhibit the initiative and ability to tackle new projects and other challenges regularly.
  • NCEES record a plus.
