About the role
- Function as the process engineer on industrial water/wastewater projects
- Apply processes and technologies for physical/chemical primary treatment, biological treatment, membrane treatment, adsorption, filtration, disinfection, thermal evaporation and crystallization
- Receive technical mentoring and guidance from a senior process engineer
- Delegate engineering or scientific calculations/ drawings to junior staff
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to implement complex treatment solutions
- Support implementation of projects from study phase through design, construction, startup and commissioning, operation and maintenance of treatment systems
- Assist in developing and preparing process design drawings, specifications, calculations, plans, and other technical deliverables for a variety of industrial water projects
- Field work will be required, including but not limited to, surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, bench- and pilot-scale treatability testing (at client sites or in our lab in Cary, NC)
- Assist with system commissioning and start-up, including training plant staff
- Prepare and make presentations to clients and for professional meetings
- Manage projects as necessary to meet both client and Arcadis’ expectations
- Supporting business development including proposal preparation and meetings with clients, and travel as needed for meetings, site visits, etc. (up to 25%)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing responsibility in the industrial water/wastewater field
- Valid driver’s license
- Possess a good understanding of different types of industrial wastewater treatment systems
- Designing water and wastewater projects and preparing construction documents including mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, control narratives, technical reports and memoranda, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, etc.
- Engineering calculations using computer software (Excel, Mathcad, etc.)
- Experience writing and editing equipment and piping specifications
- Effective collaboration and coordination within a multi-disciplinary project environment
- Provide mentorship to early career engineers
