About the role
- Support and lead tunnel engineering activities for the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project
- Lead and supervise tunnel construction activities including excavation, ground support system installation, waterproofing, and final lining construction while ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety protocols
- Monitor Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operations for proper functioning, efficiency, and alignment with geotechnical assessments and excavation strategies
- Interpret and analyze geotechnical and geological data to inform tunneling approaches, support system selection, and risk mitigation measures
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet engineering codes, project requirements, and regulatory standards
- Contribute technical expertise during planning, design, and construction phases including design reviews, constructability assessments, and value engineering
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and field staff, fostering safety and continuous improvement
- Participate in client meetings, technical presentations, and progress reporting as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in tunnel engineering, including design, construction, and oversight of TBM projects
- Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, tunnel lining systems, waterproofing methods, and ground behavior
- Proven experience with tunnel risk management, safety procedures, and QA/QC practices
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., AASHTO, ASTM, FHWA, ITA)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Preferred: Master’s degree
- Preferred: Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or transportation projects (subways, railways, highways, water conveyance tunnels)
- Preferred: Involvement in design-build or alternative delivery projects
