About the role
- Assist in planning and executing geotechnical site investigations, overseeing activities such as mobilization, field data collection, subcontractor coordination, and diligent logging of geotechnical data
- Conduct engineering analyses and design work under supervision, supporting a range of projects involving foundation systems, retaining structures, slopes and embankments, excavations and tunnels, as well as ground improvement measures
- Interpret soil, rock, and groundwater conditions, leveraging findings to produce reliable geotechnical recommendations and parameters that inform both design and construction phases
- Prepare and review a variety of technical deliverables, including geotechnical interpretative reports, design reports, technical memoranda, calculations, drawings, and cost estimates
- Provide construction support services including reviewing contractor submissions, conducting site observations, assessing changed conditions, and collaborating closely with construction teams and clients
- Participate in multi-discipline project teams to help support scope, schedule, and budget activities, and coordinate effectively with other engineering disciplines and internal teams
- Contribute to client engagements by assisting in proposal development, work-planning, budgeting, and preparing submission materials to ensure successful project delivery
- Support mentoring and knowledge sharing with junior engineers and technologists, encouraging technical growth and fostering a collaborative learning environment
- Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, relevant codes, and digital delivery methods, actively contributing to process improvements within the Geotechnics practice.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Civil or Geological Engineering; a Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering or related discipline is an asset
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia (or already registered) or willing to pursue registration
- Typically 3-8 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering consultancy or infrastructure design and delivery, with some exposure to transportation, transit, ports/marine or heavy civil sectors
- Experience interpreting geotechnical investigations and preparing geotechnical interpretative reports and design reports
- Knowledge of geotechnical design of foundations, retaining structures, slopes, earthworks and ground improvement; familiarity with seismic, liquefaction or numerical modelling is an asset
- Proficiency with geotechnical and design software (for example: GeoStudio Suite, PLAXIS, Slide, CPeTiT, CLiq, LiqSV, Settle3, LPile / APile / RS Pile or equivalent), and with technical report writing
- A positive and proactive attitude with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-discipline team, manage multiple tasks and learn new technical domains
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to sites within Western Canada as required.
