About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex litigated property and liability claims from lawsuit assignment through final resolution
  • Investigate new third-party liability claims, contact insureds and claimants, assess liability, evaluate claims, and set action plans
  • Negotiate settlements directly with claimants, their attorneys, and plaintiff attorneys
  • Develop litigation strategies with defense counsel and maintain follow-up on cases
  • Attend trials, mediations, arbitrations, and depositions by phone or in person as needed
  • Review policy information and analyze applicable coverage issues
  • Evaluate liability exposures using knowledge of tort law, contracts, and coverage forms
  • Recommend and adjust reserves as lawsuits progress
  • Maintain claim diaries, present files to internal claims committees, and report major losses to management
  • Use AI-driven tools and modern claims software to improve litigation workflows and claims accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines, applicable statutes, and Unfair Claims Practice Acts
  • Identify fraud indicators and recovery opportunities
  • Engage and monitor outside vendors, defense counsel, and experts
  • Mentor less experienced examiners and help identify training needs
  • Support litigation and liability claims during high CAT claim volumes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 4-year college degree plus 7+ years of property, liability, and litigation claims handling experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience
  • Direct experience with first- and third-party litigation in Florida, Texas, and Louisiana
  • Applicable state adjuster license where required, with ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed
  • In-depth experience interpreting property damage estimates and policy coverages
  • Working knowledge and in-depth experience evaluating liability exposures
  • Technical expertise in claims management, coverage, forms, contracts, and tort law
  • Proven negotiation skills with claimants and plaintiff attorneys
  • Knowledge of law and insurance regulations across jurisdictions, with ability to stay current on legal trends
  • Advanced experience adopting and using new software and tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Insurance certifications, courses, or professional designations are a plus
  • Ability to work extended hours due to weather-related events or litigation deadlines
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and use computers and standard office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via email
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and maintain focus on detailed tasks
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, and reach in an office environment
  • Ability to lift or move up to 10–15 pounds occasionally
