About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design and build systems for API discovery, schema understanding, and safe agent-to-API orchestration at enterprise scale
Own search, ranking, relevance, or query-planning problems central to how agents find and use APIs and data
Prototype quickly, evaluate multiple algorithmic approaches, and iterate based on customer-pilot learnings
Build and evaluate agentic systems, including tool-calling frameworks, agent orchestration, and observability/evaluation tooling
Collaborate with a small, high-context team and influence architecture and direction
Engage with select enterprise customers piloting Constellation to understand usage patterns
Communicate technical tradeoffs to technical leadership and help shape the roadmap
Contribute to Apollo's Constellation control plane for AI agents, enabling safe discovery, understanding, and coordination across enterprise APIs

Requirements

What you’ll need

Hands-on, production experience owning a search, ranking, relevance, or query-planning system at real scale
Experience designing and iterating on underlying search, ranking, relevance, or query-planning logic, rather than only integrating a third-party search tool
Experience trying multiple algorithmic approaches to a hard retrieval or ranking problem and explaining the tradeoffs
Comfort defining problems in ambiguous environments and adapting to rapidly shifting priorities
Clear communication and ability to work in a small, fast-moving team with minimal process overhead
Growth mindset
Production experience with Rust is a strong plus but not required
Experience building agent orchestration, tool-calling frameworks, or agent evaluation/observability systems
Experience with RAG systems and ownership of retrieval quality
Background in distributed query engines, federated query planning, or database query optimization
Must be authorized to work in the United States or Canada; visa sponsorship requirement is addressed during application
