Senior Client Development Manager

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a trusted advisor to municipal, county, and public-utility clients across Apex's Florida service area.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with city managers, public works directors, county commissioners, and senior municipal staff.
- Represent Apex at professional associations and industry conferences including ICMA, FCCMA, ULI, and other relevant organizations.
- Partner with Apex's Florida leadership and technical teams to support client engagement and pursuit activities.
- Maintain a current view of Florida public-sector market conditions and share relevant intelligence with Apex leadership.
- Identify and qualify new client opportunities aligned with Apex's Florida capabilities.
- Provide informed input on pursuit strategy and teaming considerations.
- Work closely with Apex's regional and business unit leadership on Florida growth priorities.
- Coordinate with peer business development resources to maintain clear account ownership.
- Support Apex's marketing and proposal teams with current client and market context.
- Apply Apex's CRM and pipeline-tracking standards to all client activities.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or public administration credential a plus.
- 10+ years of senior-level experience in Florida public-sector leadership, municipal government, or public-private business development.
- Prior service as a Deputy City Manager, Assistant City Manager, or comparable senior municipal role strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated personal network across Florida cities and counties at the city manager, public works director, or commissioner level.
- Active or recent membership in ICMA, FCCMA, ULI, or comparable professional associations.
- Working knowledge of Florida public procurement and municipal capital planning.
- Strong ability to operate effectively within an engineering and consulting business in a non-technical capacity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the credibility and presence appropriate for senior municipal audiences.
- Florida residency required.
