About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Interpret X-Ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, DEXA, and Fluoroscopy studies
  • Review imaging requests for appropriateness
  • Protocol studies and oversee imaging procedures
  • Prescribe contrast agents and imaging protocols
  • Provide guidance to radiology technologists
  • Ensure compliance with ACR standards and ALARA radiation safety principles
  • Communicate critical and urgent findings to providers
  • Identify and report poor image quality or equipment issues
  • Complete STAT exams within 1 hour, ASAP exams within 8 hours, and routine exams within 48 hours
  • Consult with referring physicians regarding X-Ray, CT, MRI, PET/CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and Fluoroscopy
  • Assist in selecting appropriate imaging procedures
  • Review consults and pre-review scheduled examinations
  • Attend department meetings
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities
  • Maintain licensure, certifications, and CME requirements
  • Participate in accreditation and compliance reviews
  • Support radiation safety and quality programs
  • Assist with onboarding and mentoring staff when needed
  • Respond to leadership and administrative requests

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Medical Doctor (MD/DO)
  • Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Diagnostic Radiology Residency
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible through the American Board of Radiology
  • Active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
  • Active AHA BLS and ACLS
  • NPI report printout
  • Active DEA license
  • Must be able to pass a federal background investigation
  • Must have lived continuously in the United States for the past three years prior to appointment at a federal facility
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs of force
