About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Schedule appointments according to VA scheduling and consult management directives
  • Coordinate and authorize Veteran care with community providers when VA services are unavailable or delayed
  • Process community care consults using HSRM, PPMS, and related VA systems
  • Perform appointment scheduling, tracking, and pre/post appointment outreach
  • Screen and answer incoming phone calls
  • Respond to patient and provider inquiries
  • Validate and update patient demographic and insurance information
  • Process and integrate medical records into CPRS and VistA systems
  • Communicate with VA providers regarding Community Care procedures and requirements
  • Monitor scheduling reports, recalls, consults, and access metrics
  • Document and maintain accurate patient records and correspondence
  • Use Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word daily
  • Provide customer service to Veterans, families, providers, and VA staff
  • Follow VA privacy, HIPAA, security, and scheduling requirements
  • Complete an average minimum of 20 cases per day, or as otherwise assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • U.S. citizen
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must live within 50 miles of the facility
  • Minimum 6 months of customer service experience
  • Ability to speak clearly, hear, and write English
  • Ability to use computer programs, including spreadsheets and word processing
  • Ability to type 50 words per minute with minimum errors
  • No health restrictions affecting job performance
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge
  • No sponsorship available
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs of force
  • Must have lived continuously in the United States for the past three years prior to appointment at a federal facility
