About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Represent Anoka County in legal proceedings, including hearings, trials, and appeals.
- Prepare briefs, motions, memoranda of law, opinions, pleadings, agreements, contracts, and other legal documents.
- Conduct pretrial/prehearing preparations.
- Review various legal resources in support of legal research.
- Analyze and interpret existing laws, regulations, and cases.
- Gather evidence, interview witnesses, and present findings in court.
- Confer with parties and negotiate settlements.
- Provide legal opinions and training to Anoka County employees.
- Prepare post-hearing motions and appeals.
- Draft ordinances, rules, and policies.
- Work collaboratively with the assigned legal team.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Minnesota (must be licensed by October 2026)
- Successfully complete a fingerprint-based background investigation
- Experience representing a state, county, city, or other government entity (preferred)
- Completion of paid Court of Appeals, Federal or District Court Judicial Clerkship (preferred)
- Experience in effective presentation of cases to a court (preferred)
- Experience conducting legal research and data analysis (preferred)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with clients, coworkers, and others (preferred)
