About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- As Category Manager, Books you will independently manage your book categories and continuously develop the assortment with a focus on growth, market trends and profitability.
- Assortment development: Managing and advancing your book categories with an emphasis on growth and profitability.
- Portfolio Management: Evaluating new releases, backlist titles, thematic collections and publishers in terms of demand, potential and performance.
- Purchasing: Responsibility for orders and ensuring product availability in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Data Analysis: Analyzing sales figures, market trends, competitors and assortment performance to derive concrete optimization measures.
- Supplier Management: Building and maintaining successful partnerships with publishers and suppliers and identifying new business opportunities.
- Assortment Optimization: Continuously improving revenue, margin and assortment based on data-driven decisions.
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 3 years of professional experience in purchasing, category management, product management, assortment management or a comparable commercial role.
- Experience in the book, publishing, media or e-commerce environment and a good understanding of the book market.
- A flair for books, topics, trends, target groups and commercial potential.
- Understanding of how book assortments are evaluated, listed, ordered and managed in online retail.
- Analytical mindset and confident handling of sales, performance and market data.
- Structured, careful and independent working style – including for operational tasks such as listings, ordering and data maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and enjoyment of working with publishers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Ideally experience with Amazon FBA or knowledge of the marketplace / e-commerce environment.
- Fluent German and very good English skills.
