About the role

  • Operates the burn table using blueprints, drawings, etc. to cut various parts.
  • Sets up and operates flame, plasma, or laser burning (cutting) machine to cut metal of various sizes and thickness into required patterns – sometimes to very close tolerances.
  • May use NC/CNC technology or sketches to establish with limited direction.
  • Inspects parts to ensure that specified tolerances and dimensions are met.
  • Examine detailed drawings, blueprints, bill of materials, etc. to establish material and equipment requirements.
  • Set up burn table to cut proper part, using metalworking machines and equipment.
  • Program and operate burn table, reporting any variations needed to the program.
  • Use forklift and cranes to load and unload sheet metal and metal parts to/from the burn table.
  • Use hand and/or power tools to deburr parts.
  • Manufacture products/parts that are high quality, within tolerances, and as required.
  • Instruct and train all levels of operators.
  • Coordinate with other department leads/supervisors on the prioritization of workflow throughout the department.
  • Assist Production Manager with budget for department.
  • Lead by example and motivate the operator team to complete projects on-time.
  • Contribute feedback to and sit in on performance reviews with Production Manager.
  • Maintain and perform maintenance on burn table as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 5+ years of experience in burn plasma/laser operation and programming
  • Full understanding of burn plasma & laser equipment and operational requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and bill of materials to manufacture products/parts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Proven ability to maintain strict tolerances of manufactured parts
  • Strong mathematical ability to calculate material needs
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good communication and organizational skills with a willingness to work with others; ability to interact professionally and positively with all levels of personnel in the company
  • Good understanding and background of production and manufacturing in a sheet metal facility
  • Demonstrate qualities that support a safe working environment
  • Forklift certification required
