About the role

  • The Hydraulic Designer will act as the central support resource for staff involved in the design of turbine hydraulic passages, at all stages for new machines as well as refurbishments.
  • Define, develop, maintain, and modify hydraulic engineering tools and processes;
  • Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses;
  • Support submissions for preliminary design and design reviews;
  • Analyze design requirements;
  • Support the hydraulic design development of turbine components of various types;
  • Work with the Hydraulic Laboratory team in Linz on turbine model development;
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering and contracted hydraulic engineers to ensure ongoing execution of development contracts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; a graduate degree is strongly preferred;
  • Ideally, a minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in the field of hydraulic turbines;
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), or meet OIQ eligibility criteria;
  • Innovative mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and keen attention to detail;
  • Strong teamwork skills and excellent written and verbal communication;
  • Proven ability to work independently and demonstrated leadership;
  • Familiarity with numerical fluid mechanics simulations for hydraulic turbines;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the commercial and technical aspects of hydroelectric plant equipment;
  • Strong interest in programming, ideally with experience in Linux bash scripting and Python;
  • Bilingualism desired: French and English.
