About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Underwrite, manage, and service a renewal book, producing new business in accordance with business unit goals
- Develop and manage underwriting strategies for complex accounts and targets within your portfolio of accounts
- Exercise discretion and self-directed judgment in analyzing and evaluating risk, participating in roundtable discussions on risk assessment, and providing mentorship and leadership to peers
- Identify and drive new product development opportunities effectively
- Build and enhance relationships with brokers and clients, identifying and establishing new distribution relationships
- Cultivate key broker relationships to maintain a steady stream of business within our underwriting appetite
- Maintain awareness of claims activity, supporting and providing input on settlement of claims
- Assist with the development and periodic review of the portfolio written from all offices
- Support the business planning and forecasting process, monitoring financial exposure and premium income within outlined limits and territories by class of business
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with company standards
- Participate in and/or provide training opportunities to expand technical underwriting knowledge
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10-15 years of experience in underwriting or contingency insurance broking, with a focus on complex and high-value risks
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Strong technical expertise with the ability to analyze and evaluate risk
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience using carrier rating systems, broker portals, or agency management systems is a plus
