About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own and improve the telemetry data pipeline from AWS IoT Core and Kafka into TimescaleDB, including legacy GCP Pub/Sub
  • Ensure pipeline throughput, correctness, latency, cost efficiency, stability, and scalability
  • Evolve GraphQL contracts and design secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs for web and mobile clients
  • Keep the backend-for-frontend layer maintainable as the schema and product grow
  • Reduce infrastructure and observability cost per device, latency, and throughput bottlenecks
  • Improve Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, batched writes, backpressure, and hot-path isolation
  • Use Grafana to identify slow queries, monitor pipelines, and maintain proactive alerts
  • Safely deploy reversible changes using parallel runs, shadow validation, staged cutovers, and rollback
  • Review frontend and mobile work and trace bugs across Vue, TimescaleDB, and Kafka
  • Stabilize and cost-optimize telemetry as the device fleet scales
  • Extend APIs for new product features without latency regressions or client breakage
  • Act as a senior voice in incident response and reduce support load
  • Collaborate with firmware, service, and commercial colleagues to turn telemetry into reliable tooling
  • Build and maintain Enernet, Ampd Energy’s cloud platform for fleet monitoring, alarms, scheduling, reporting, and technician mobile applications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5–10 years building and operating production backend systems
  • Meaningful experience with high-throughput streaming or time-series data
  • Deep practical knowledge of Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, rebalancing, ordering, and idempotency
  • Experience with schema evolution, strong SQL, and time-series databases such as TimescaleDB, ClickHouse, or InfluxDB
  • Experience designing secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs for web and mobile clients
  • Experience migrating a live system without downtime using parallel writes, shadow validation, staged cutover, and rollback
  • Fluency in TypeScript and Node.js; NestJS experience relevant to the services stack
  • Production AWS experience, including ECS, IoT Core, networking, and Terraform/IaC
  • Ability to become productive in Go quickly; prior Go experience is a plus, not a requirement
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation
  • First-hand experience managing live systems during production incidents
  • Ability to explain systems precisely and concisely to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to set technical direction, conduct rigorous reviews, and improve engineering quality
  • Ability to simplify systems and work through legacy technical debt
