About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage an independent caseload of contentious claims and diary management
- Assess evidence and establish responsibility when considering liability
- Evaluate claims and proactively obtain quantum documentation
- Negotiate liability or quantum with defendant solicitors or insurers
- Send Letters Before Action to third parties using the case management system
- Assess and collate documentation supporting claims
- Proactively pursue claims and use the telephone appropriately
- Draft legal proceedings and handle litigation and compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules
- Follow claims through to and attend small claims trials
- Instruct counsel and experts where necessary
- Draft correspondence and witness statements
- Maintain client relationships by providing claim progress updates and taking new instructions
- Perform general administration, including archiving, billing and case management
- Receive training to manage a caseload or assist claims-handling teams acting for businesses recovering uninsured losses
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ideally, but not essentially, a minimum of 3 months’ recent experience in legal, insurance, claims handling or customer service roles
- Confidence with IT systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to prioritise and produce high-quality work in a volume environment, sometimes under pressure, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational skills while maintaining team processes and procedures
- Proactive approach to documenting and handling tasks and cases
- Ability to cope with and respond to sudden client demands
- Good communication skills and telephone manner
- Ability to discuss and negotiate matters by telephone
- Analytical and problem-solving approach
