About the role

  • Provide strategic and operational support to Early Development Oncology Therapeutic Area
  • Partner closely with the VP, Global Early Development
  • Support Early Development leadership in strategy development, goal setting, and execution of organizational plans
  • Advise the Early Development Head on priorities, progress, risks, and gaps, synthesizing insights to inform decisions
  • Represent the business strategy for the Function and collaborate with Human Resources (HR), Finance, Corporate Communications to advance key objectives
  • Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives, translating ambiguous business needs into actionable plans and delivering high-impact outcomes
  • Operate effectively in a dynamic environment, managing ambiguity, ad hoc requests, and shifting priorities with independence
  • Lead budget and resource planning, including forecasting, tracking, and alignment with global processes; oversee resource modeling and forecasting assumptions
  • Manage headcount planning and approvals, partnering with HR on recruiting, onboarding, and talent management
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and executive-level presentations to track performance and inform decisions
  • Build strong partnerships across Global Development SP&Os and across R&D functions/ departments to drive alignment and best practice sharing
  • Lead or represent the function in process improvement initiatives, advancing operational efficiency and consistency

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience in R&D planning and operations
  • Or Master’s degree and 4 years of experience in R&D strategic planning and operation
  • Or Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience in R&D planning and operations
  • Or Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience in R&D planning and operations
  • Or High school diploma / GED and 12 years of experience in R&D planning and operations
  • MBA, PhD, PharmD, or Master’s Degree with 10 years of work experience in lab sciences and biopharmaceutical industry with 4 or more years of that experience in Oncology R&D with good knowledge of clinical development, financial budgeting, and workforce strategies
  • Proven leader who has experience leading cross-functional teams and organizational change initiatives, including experience in business case development
  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and handle execution
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills with the ability to influence different styles and individuals at different levels in organization
  • Demonstrated organization management experience including developing and mentoring staff.
