About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead teams to produce technically sound engineering solutions complying with technical standards and client requirements
- Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation for scheme deliverables
- Oversee junior staff and take responsibility for their actions
- Control project budgets and manage delivery costs
- Liaise with client and supplier representatives, attend progress meetings and respond to queries
- Contribute significantly to bid preparation and work winning
- Drive effective health and safety practices within the team
- Support the Design Team Leader on road schemes and take the lead on projects
- Mentor junior designers
- Act as day-to-day main engineering contact or Contractor’s Responsible Engineer where required
- Act as Principal Designer for appropriate projects
- Manage a medium-sized, locally based single-discipline technical team
Requirements
What you’ll need- Developed experience and expertise in the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent
- Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions while working unsupervised and supervising junior staff
- Experience managing health, safety and welfare tasks, including Amey’s Integrated Management System and CDM Regulations
- Ability to act as day-to-day main engineering contact or Contractor’s Responsible Engineer where required
- Knowledge and experience of design and specification processes, with ability to advise others
- Ability to check designs to a high standard
- Highly experienced with relevant software and analytical tools
- Good understanding of CDM and risk assessment
- Substantial experience managing and communicating project hazards and risks, including mitigation and transference
- Supervisory and people management skills
- Ability to manage a medium-sized, locally based single-discipline technical team
- Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts
- Good understanding of DMRB and Eurocodes for highway bridge design, strengthening, refurbishment and assessment
