About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide federal, state, and local employment and labor law advice and support for all U.S.-based operations.
  • Advise Human Resources and business leaders on hiring, termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, and internal investigations.
  • Manage all domestic employment-related litigation and disputes (and, as a member of the litigation team, will handle certain general commercial litigation), including strategy development, pleadings, all facets of discovery, settlement guidance, and oversight of outside counsel.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review employment-related agreements and develop and deliver employment law training.
  • Research and stay current on employment, labor, and litigation law developments and communicate relevant changes internally.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle highly confidential information.
  • As a Counsel, you are responsible for the recruitment (where applicable), performance management and career development of a Supervising Attorney and their team as well as a Specialist. You’ll also be expected to cultivate a collaborative team dynamic that enables us to meet business objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association–accredited law school; member in good standing of at least one state bar required.
  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience specializing in employment law, either in-house or at a firm, with experience overseeing outside counsel required.
  • Previous experience managing a team preferred.
  • Expert-level knowledge of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws.
  • Strong strategic and problem solving skills.
  • Approximately 20% travel may be required in support of the position’s responsibilities, including visiting the Boston office on a regular cadence.
  • Strong organization, planning, and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines.
  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.
  • Strong leadership skills; ability to drive and motivate team to achieve results.
