About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, organize, and conduct training and educational programs for Fleet sailors supporting the Aegis Training and Readiness Center in Dahlgren, Virginia
  • Conduct traditional classroom instruction and support tactical lab training
  • Train CG/DDG sailors in preventive and corrective maintenance for the UYQ-70 Local Area Network and associated equipment
  • Train personnel in alignment, adjustment, configuration, removal, replacement, diagnostic testing, and system validation of UYQ-70 LAN equipment
  • Provide subject matter expertise for curriculum development supporting ATRC courses and AEGIS-related technician courses
  • Deliver dynamic teaching, training, and officer-level assessment concerning U.S. Navy Aegis Combat Systems capabilities and limitations
  • Review and analyze Aegis Combat System engineering capabilities, limitations, and operational/tactical doctrine
  • Assess sailors’ compliance with approved maintenance and operational procedures and provide formal performance appraisals and improvement recommendations
  • Observe and assess contemporaries during Practice and Certification Teaches per NAVEDTRA 135
  • Prepare, review, and customize curriculum lesson plans and instructor guides
  • Support course reviews and curriculum updates; conduct training gap analysis and provide course-improvement recommendations
  • Document training by individual area/watch station and generate formal written assessments
  • Develop, test, maintain, and deliver moderately complex Aegis training programs and related materials
  • Establish and review course content and objectives
  • Conduct training sessions and develop criteria for evaluating training effectiveness
  • Maintain records of training activities, participant progress, and program effectiveness
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant assigned technologies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work/military experience
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • At least three (3) years of experience with the required system as either a maintenance technician supervisor or operator supervisor, with responsibility for teaching applicable system or function tasks to others in a journeyman-level training environment
  • At least one (1) year of experience as an instructor in a Navy Training Environment, including curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials and instructional results, and counseling students on academic learning problems
  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. Navy Aegis Combat Systems Capabilities and Limitations
  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy Aegis Combat System Engineering Capabilities and Limitations and U.S. Navy Operational and Tactical doctrine
  • Ability to conduct traditional classroom instruction and support tactical lab training
  • Technical knowledge of UYQ-70 LAN, ADS and CND UYQ-70 Consoles, X-STAB monitors, Bridge Routers, Fiber Optic Data Distribution, ETHERNET interfaces, File Servers, Application Processors, HP-UX, and HP-RT
