About the role
- Deliver legal representation to American Family Insurance insureds and policyholders
- Manage moderately complex civil litigation within corporate guidelines and professional responsibility rules
- Analyze files as litigation progresses and evaluate cases for settlement
- Conduct discovery (interrogatories, requests for production, depositions) and motion practice
- Draft pleadings, papers and briefs and conduct legal research
- Handle matters through trial, mediations, settlement conferences and arbitration
- Advocate client position in state/federal courts, ADR, administrative tribunals and regulatory hearings
- Stay current on statutes and court decisions; potentially develop specialty practice areas
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
- Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery and deposing witnesses
- Demonstrated litigation experience
- Solid knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice
- Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law
- Admitted to the state bar in the state where they are located OR admission to the bar within one year of hire OR bar admission within 60 days for diploma privilege/in-house counsel registration
- Juris Doctor
- Admitted to the California State Bar strongly preferred
- Travel up to 50%
